PREPARING FOR A SUCCESSFUL JOB SEARCH

Flashback – to one year ago, May 12, 2010.  Does the advice still hold true?   Several weeks ago, I attended a session of an ad-hoc group of people looking to improve their careers.  Some people wanted to change jobs and advance their career while others were out of work and were looking for a job. This group meets every two weeks to share leads and connections, explore opportunities and information, and learn new and different techniques to network and find that elusive next job. The Next Generation of FAITH and HOPE

I am here!

My son Evan returns to college for his senior year on Sunday.  He is full of hope, excitement, anticipation and joy.  He has the energy and determination of a freight train barreling cross-country, throttle wide-open in the vast and flat mid-western plains.  As a parent, I worry. Ahhh.  What must it be like to be young and not so aware of the impact of the nasty global economy, the frightening challenges ahead in our domestic economy and the pitiful job market?  I am tempted to warn him (again) about the uncertainty of America’s economic future.  I am also tempted to advise him (again) about the benefits of pursuing higher education and an advanced degree.  I want him to be careful as he experiments with new ideas entering into … [Read more...]
