It is being replaced by a career of moving from one company to another and project-to-project. This method of working is similar to that of actors and athletes, where their careers build on their ability to move and adapt. Early in the Hollywood era, actors worked much like the rest of corporate America did through the 80s and 90s – they were employed by a studio and did the work that was required by the company.
